Our client, a leading international mining company has a rare opportunity for a Director of Finance to lead their finance and administration department.

As the Director of Finance you are the senior financial manager responsible for all financial accounting and  related functions as well as administration processes for the U.S. Corporation. This includes  all U.S. projects.

The Director of Finance is responsible for the management of the full range of  budgeting/forecasting, project accounting, and financial accounting and reporting from data entry to  preparation of financial statements. Duties will focus on ensuring proper financial reporting, internal  controls, financial analysis and reporting, both to local management and the holding company  management. Some hands on accounting and statement preparation will be required.  

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the following functions:  
    • Project accounting (job cost and project based environment)  
    • Billings  
    • Accounts receivable  
    • Accounts payable  
    • Payroll  
    • Fixed assets  
    • General accounting including preparation of management and financial statements 
    • Prepare monthly management statements  
    • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements  
    • Analyze and report on statement results  
    • Ensure proper internal controls are in place and functioning  
    • Develop, support and/or champion business process automation initiatives 
  • Work closely with operations management so as to be able to:  
    • Prepare timely budgets and forecasts  
    • Analyze and explain results   
    • Ensure best practices in managing data requirements and integrity, particularly with  project controls personnel 
    • Liaise with other corporate departments on policies and procedures  
    • Liaise with financial managers at affiliated companies  
    • Mentor/coach and provide leadership to other members of the team  
    • Maintain confidentiality with respect to financial, employee and client information

Qualifications:

  • Required: University degree with an accounting designation; CPA  
  • Required: Minimum five years management experience in a medium or large company  
  • Experience in organizations undergoing change or rapid growth  
  • Experience in a projects based environment  
  • Experience working in an ERP environment  
  • Preferred: As above with experience working in a JDE environment and working with foreign  currencies 
  • Technical & Systems Requirements: JD Edwards, MS Office, SharePoint  
  • Self-starter, works well with minimum supervision  
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines  
  • Excellent in a job cost environment  
  • Well-developed project management, organizational and time management skills   
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills  
  • Clear understanding of IFRS reporting standards  
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively  
  • Occasional amount of domestic and international travel may be required  
  • Overtime and weekend work required
